GPS Review for Garmin, Magellan, and Tomtom

For the average traveller in the U.S., it seems me the c330 would be better. Both have the same maps and a touch screen, the Nuvi has text to speech (which you can get from the c340) and the language guides which are basically translators to different languages which I would never use here.

Which Gps Is Better, The Garmin Streetpilot I5 Or The C330?

Posted by: Chris - GPS Mania In: Garmin GPS

I have actually purchase both the i3 and the C320 which are respectively the same as the i5 and the C330.
The difference between the higher model numbers is that the i3 and C320 don’t have built in memory to load all the maps, however they do have flash memory expansion slots and you can get a 1gb microsd for the i3 or a 1gb SD card for the C320 for about 30 bucks.
If you don’t have a computer and can’t load the maps on the unit yourself I would go with the C330 or the I5, otherwise save money and buy the c320 or the i3. They are the same otherwise.
Now to your question.
Both of the units navigate exactly the same. The C330 has a nice touch screen to access all the menus, wheras the i5 only has a scroll wheel and a back button. The scroll wheel can be a bit of a pain, but not that big of a deal.
The C330 has a few extra screens like previewing a map, and a trip odometer, which also tells how many miles left you have on your trip and avg speed and things like that.
If you can afford the higher cost of the C330 I would buy that, it has a bigger screen and the touchscreen is a lot easier than the scrollwheel.
One other difference is that you will need to purchase an anti-glare screen for the C330, as its screen cannot be seen well in sunlight or with polarized sunglasses. The i5’s screen is already sunlight readable and anti-glare.
You can get the anti glare screen from Boxwave.com for about 15 bucks. Or maybe you can find it cheaper somewhere else.
Also the i5 can use two nimh AA batteries if you don’t like to use the car adapter, but the unit does not recharge the batteries.
The C330 has a built in battery as well as an adapter for the cigarette lighter, the adapter will recharge the built in battery.
I’m happy with my i3, it’s an excellent unit, but I would rather have the bigger touch screen and the built in battery.
It’s all up to you and how much you want to spend.

Which Gps Is Better: Garmin C330 Or Garmin Nuvi 350?

Posted by: Chris - GPS Mania In: Garmin GPS

The Nuvi has a better GPS chip that locks onto satellites a little faster, it’s also a more compact unit that makes it more portable.
Also, I’m not sure the c330 has an MP3 player and an Audiobook player, if you care about those things (The nuvi does)
However, both units perform exactly alike as far as navigation goes and they use the same maps, so if you want to save yourself a little over a hundred bucks, then go with the C330.

I have tried to position the GPS unit at several locations on the dashboard it still loses reception Garmind Street Pilot 330 is considered the most reliable one’s even that is losing settelite reception. Is there any conflict of reception with the hidden antenna since I dont even know where antenna is located in Honda Coupe 2000…. anyone can help..?

Garmin Streetpilot C330 Gps Battery?

Posted by: Chris - GPS Mania In: Garmin GPS

When the unit is not plugged in the car, it is using some internal battery that is limited. I’d like to know if that battery can be charged, and if it is being charged while the unit is plugged in. I am using the unit inside my house to introduce favorite places, etc. and the battery signal went from 2 bars down to 1, so I want to know if there is any way it can be charged. Thanks.
